The "Drying Pole" by John Lundemo
Big. Is how I'd describe this massive blade. This shobu katana is not for the faint of heart. At a 32in nagasa with a motokansane of 5/16th and a weight of about 2.6 lbs. Polishing this was a chore due to the substantial nuku that had to be "pushed" up the ji. This katana features very full niku and a slight sori.

The gunome hamon in nioi features much of the "graining" and black streaks that I have found to be in Johns work in the Japanese style. The nakago is also gracefully done in the "Pheasant's" thigh style.

This gives a nice glimpse of the neat stuff that appears in Johns hamon. Careful selection and application of nugui allows for the uniform darkness of the ji.
